How to Ensure You are Noticed, Understood, and Selected (Without Appearing Boastful)

Just having talent does not mean that one is visible. You might be skilled, experienced and even the hardest working in the company but if no one knows it then the other person with half your credentials but twice your visibility will get the job.

It is not right, but it is true.

Visibility does not mean loudness.

The Cost of Staying Invisible

I have worked with so many women who are achievers and at one point they have said something like this:

“I don’t like the idea of advertising myself; it seems conceited.”
“I just want my work to do the talking for me.”
“I wouldn’t want to appear too ambitious.”

Does that sound like something you would say?

But here’s the thing: You’re not being quiet is not an act of humility, it’s an act of invisibility.

So, it is clear that invisible brands do not get an invitation to the table, are not promoted to leadership, and are not selected for the game-changing opportunities.

So, let’s get a clear understanding of what personal branding really means.

It’s not about the number of your selfies or your achievements.

It is about clarity, consistency, and connection.

You are not bragging. You are bragging to an extent that you are present, and you are present with a brand that has a purpose, a brand that has confidence:

”This is who I am. This is what I stand for. This is how I will help.”

Here is how you can take your visibility up a notch without having to sell your soul to promotion:

How to Be Seen, Known, and Chosen (Without Losing Yourself)

Here is how you can take your visibility up a notch without having to sell your soul to promotion:

  • Claim Your Voice
Contribute your ideas in meetings and discussions. You don’t have to shout to be heard. Your ideas are important, but if you do not fight for them, then no one else will.
  • Tell the Story, Not Just the Stats
Instead of listing achievements, describe how they were achieved. Describe the what, the who, and the why of the effort. People are always going to be interested in the impact rather than the numbers.
  • Style Your Online Presence
What comes up when someone searches for you? It is LinkedIn, a portfolio, or even a bio that should depict the best of your skills and personality in any position you take.
  • Permit Others to Shine the Light for You
Ask for testimonials. Request endorsements. Share team achievements. It is a great way to build trust without you having to write a single word.
  • Guarantee That Your Brand is Consistent With Your Core Values
Your personal brand should be genuine to you and not something you think others want to see. When it is, then visibility is easy – not forced.

The last word: Visibility with a touch of grace

It means to be there and make sure that the right people can see it without having to raise your voice.

It’s time to push back against the urge to hide so that others remain uncomfortable.

You aren’t too much. You’re enough – when you choose to be.

Because here’s the truth:

  • Women who are seen, get heard.
  • Women who are known, get trusted.
  • And women who are chosen? They lead the change.

Your Turn:

Are you cloaked in anonymity? What is one change you can make this week to reveal the leader you already are?
